Vijay Deverakonda’s latest cinematic endeavor, Family Star, alongside Mrunal Thakur, hasn’t managed to spark much enthusiasm at the box office, both in India and overseas. Coming off the back of two unsuccessful releases, Liger and Kushi, Deverakonda was hoping for a turnaround with this film. However, according to Deccan Chronicle, a hefty production budget has further complicated matters for the producers.
Family Star was ambitiously crafted on a budget of ₹100 crore, a decision that, in hindsight, might not have been the best financial strategy given its lukewarm reception. The film’s extravagant expenses, including costly US shooting schedules, star salaries, and additional reshoots, have significantly burdened producer Dil Raju. Director Parasuram, who previously collaborated with Deverakonda on the hit Geeta Govindam, reportedly went all out in spending, aiming for another blockbuster but unfortunately ended up overshooting the budget.
The film’s box office performance has been disappointing, with a global collection of just ₹28.15 crore in its first week, as per Sacnilk reports. Within India, Family Star amassed only ₹17.08 crore, setting it on a path to being declared a box office disaster.
This development marks a challenging phase in Vijay Deverakonda’s career, highlighting the unpredictable nature of the film industry where not all investments yield the expected returns. Family Star’s attempt to recapture the magic of Deverakonda and Parasuram’s previous success seems to have faltered, leaving stakeholders to reflect on the outcomes and strategize for future projects.
