The remarkable Sushmita Sen, crowned Miss Universe and known for her Bollywood successes, has recently been making waves with her captivating role in the web series ‘Tali’. Her portrayal has garnered widespread acclaim. But despite her recent successes, there’s a part of her past that remains poignant.
Sushmita, who has always been candid about her health challenges, has served as an emblem of strength and resilience for her fans. Her candidness continued when she recently opened up about a challenging decision in her early career during a chat with Barkha Singh on Mojo Story.
Sushmita reminisced about her challenging decision to walk away from a film that starred Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan. The reason? Her top priority, her daughter Renee.
“During the shoot in Canada, I got a distressing call from Mumbai. Renee was in a severe medical condition and had been hospitalized,” shared the former Miss Universe. “Despite the cloud of judgment about being a young mother in the industry, Renee was, and always will be, my foremost priority,” she expressed.
She spoke candidly about the societal pressures of being punctual, professional, and ‘proving’ herself. But when her father updated her about Renee’s condition, Sushmita did not think twice. “The moment I heard about Renee’s condition, I was on the next flight back to Mumbai. I knew this might jeopardize my career, but Renee needed me,” she confided.
Upon her return and ensuring Renee’s recovery, Sushmita was ready to dive back into work. However, she felt that her abrupt departure had already made an irreversible impact. She reflected, “I feared this was the end of my professional journey.”
However, life had other plans for the actress. Today, she shines brightly, showcasing her versatility as an actress, especially with her recent portrayal of transgender activist Gauri Sawant in the ‘Tali’ biopic web series. Fans are eagerly awaiting her return in the third season of the blockbuster thriller, ‘Arya’, set to stream on Disney Plus Hotstar.
