Mathagam Review: Atharvaa’s Cop Drama Hits & Misses!

Mathagam: A High-Stakes Game of Cat and Mouse!

When the dark alleys of crime cross paths with the fierce pursuit of law, drama ensues. Enter the universe of ‘Mathagam’.

Delving Deep: Under the adept direction of Prasath Murugesan, ‘Mathagam’ promises intrigue from the get-go. Deputy Commissioner Ashwath (Atharvaa) is drawn into a criminal rabbit hole, chasing the notorious Padalam Sekhar (Manikandan), a ghost from the past.

The plot, spanning five episodes, offers plenty to engage. With a slew of characters, procedural twists, and personal conflicts, the early episodes race with captivating momentum.

Tides of Change: While Atharvaa dons the sincere cop role effortlessly, the familiarity of his challenges dims its charm. Despite the challenges, Nikhila Vimal, as his anchor, captures our hearts with grace.

Manikandan, though striving for menacing perfection, finds himself caught in past roles’ shadows, making Sekhar’s portrayal a tad less menacing than hoped for.

Supporting cast members, like Dhivyadharshini, Gautham Menon, and Ilavarasu, bring their A-game, enriching the canvas.

Tumbling Blocks: However, after an explosive start, ‘Mathagam’ stumbles. The series suffers from lapses in the screenplay and dwindling high-points. The anticipated climax is left hanging, leaving viewers hungry and slightly disappointed.

Final Verdict: ‘Mathagam’ ventures ambitiously into the realm of cops and gangsters. Yet, its trajectory plateaus after an initial surge. While it offers glimpses of brilliance, the series ultimately delivers a mix of hits and misses.
